”To me, it is imperative that we all live up to our responsibilities so that the breast cancer heritage is not handed over to future generations. We must do everything we can to make sure that our daugthers and their daughters do not suffer from the current breast cancer threat"

Professor Nils Brünner, Faculty of Life Sciences, Copenhageh University

Facts about Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among women. Each year more than 4000 women in Denmark are diagnosed with breast cancer - and this number has increased steadily during the past 40 years. In Norway, Sweden and Finland the corresponding numbers are: 3000, 6000 and 4000.
Eventhough treatments have improved, it is still a fact that 40% of women diagnosed with breast cancer die within 10 years of diagnosis. This number is approx. 10% lower in Sweden, Finland and Norway.
We need to be innovative and old traditions need to be put aside. We need to work across paradigms, organisations, disciplines and boundaries - and this is eactly what has formed the basis and is the core of the research within The Danish Center for Translational Breast Cancer Research.

    DTCB´s mål

    • To identify markers and "molecular signatures", i.e. specific characteristics which can be used to classify each individual tumor and thereby each individual patient - such a classification is a prerequisite for tailormade and more effective treatment forms.
    • To identify markers and signatures which can lead the way to earlier detection, a more accurate prognosis and improved ability to predict the effects of the treatment of each individual patient.
